Pods of Care (POC)
Pods of Care (POC) is a community outreach service which began in 2010. The program came about because of the interest shown in Jacob’s Ladder by families who lived too far away to get their children to the Roswell campus for school. In the POC program, families come to Jacob’s Ladder to have their child evaluated, bringing with them the person who is to become the child’s teacher. From the evaluation, a customized program is designed based on the innovative Jacob’s Ladder model of intervention.
The family and the child’s teacher are trained on this new program and in the correct 1:1 delivery method, coupled with a step by step framework for continued growth and success. An experienced Jacob’s Ladder clinician participates in the training to ensure the interventions are correctly administered and the child is responding appropriately. Once the family returns home, JL continues to monitor their progress through conference calls and video conferencing, maintaining oversight of all case load management.
We have implemented Pods of Care in Hong Kong, Thailand, Switzerland, Nigeria, India, Ethiopia, England, and Norway. Once this “pod” of JL methodology is established, multiple students in that area may receive JL therapy from the trained provider upon completion of an evaluation. The POC concept addresses one of two situations: one family may be served, or a “satellite” location may be shared by multiple families.
The same intensive, integrated approach that only Jacob’s Ladder students receive daily is made available to clients across the globe through our Pods of Care Model.
We often have families come to us for our services that are in another area of the country or world, and therefore cannot attend school on our campus. For these situations, we have established Pods of Care (POC). With this delivery model, the families come to us for some extended length of time while our trained clinicians evaluate the child, design an individualized program, and train the person who will deliver that program upon returning home. An experienced JL staff member implements the program as part of the Jacob’s Ladder Intensive Program offering.
Once they return to their home, JL continues to work with them via conference calls, video conferencing, etc. to monitor the child and the program, and ensure that the child continues to receive the services they need.
